Following almost a year of planning, some GKEPF members and partners have completed a successful dehorning operation as an initiative to alleviate the impact of poaching on remaining populations.

The dehorning of a large number of rhinos requires a team of highly-skilled, passionate and dedicated individuals. The team comprising vets, pilots, security personnel and a number of ground staff, working around the clock for seven days to ensure the project ran smoothly and successfully. All horns were removed from site.

Whilst the dehorning project cannot be viewed as a ‘standalone’ initiative, it plays a role as a counter-poaching initiatives.

An intensive post monitoring program will be followed where the teams will be able to fully measure the impact of this operation.
