VOLUNTEER & SOCIAL UPLIFTMENT PROJECTS

UMBABAT OUTREACH

The Umbabat Private Nature Reserve (UPNR) is a federal reserve bordered by Timbavati and Klaserie Private Nature Reserves and the Kruger National Park with no community development on its immediate boundary. Over the years various outreach projects have been initiated by shareholders and landowners including Motswari Private Nature Reserves’ Rhino Disharmony.

In 2018 the Umbabat initiated a more structured Outreach process with a focus on “The Youth and Vulnerable Children.” Projects include:

  1. Hosting Environmental Monitors to facilitate youth skills development. 3 unarmed Environmental Monitors are engaged in a mentor-mentee program during the school holidays.
  2. Assisting organisations with teaching capacity for children with learning difficulties at The Sigagula Childrens Centre and Tsakane Special School off the Orpen Road.
  3. Enhancing the understanding of biodiversity through Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) lessons at the schools in the area.

The Umbabat Non-Profit Organisation is currently being set up and should be operational before the end of 2019.
