GKEPF recently participated in the Earth Ranger in the Field Workshop, hosted at Timbavati Nature Reserve Headquarters, alongside reserve staff from Balule Nature Reserve, Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Thornybush Nature Reserve and Timbavati Nature Reserve.
Led by the Earth Ranger support team and Earth Ranger CEO Bruce Jones, the workshop focused on strengthening administrators’ knowledge and practical use of the platform, which is widely used across and adjacent to the Greater Kruger to support reserve management and wildlife monitoring.
For GKEPF, the training provided an opportunity to build confidence in administering its Earth Ranger platform and further develop the skills needed to support monitoring across the landscape.
Earth Ranger plays an important role in GKEPF’s Ecological Resilience Programme, where it is used to gather information for keystone species monitoring and support more consistent wildlife monitoring across the open system. Strengthening knowledge of the platform contributes to more standardised data collection and a better understanding of wildlife and landscape dynamics.
The workshop also provided valuable opportunities to connect with Earth Ranger users from across the Greater Kruger, exchange practical experiences and strengthen professional relationships.
A particularly valuable outcome was establishing a connection with the Earth Ranger team, opening opportunities to explore future integration between Earth Ranger and CMore, which could further strengthen information sharing across the landscape.
