Since August 2025, GKEPF has supported veterinary interventions linked to wildlife emergencies, human-wildlife conflict, and wildlife crime across partner reserves through a service level agreement with Wildscapes Veterinary Solutions.
This partnership strengthens Management Authorities’ ability to access timely veterinary assistance when urgent incidents arise, with GKEPF covering qualifying veterinary and treatment costs.
Interventions to date have included:
- relocating escaped lions safely back into protected areas
- treating lions, hyenas, elephants, and other wildlife affected by snares or injuries
- treating rhino injuries resulting from conflict or trauma
- responding to wildlife injuries linked to attempted criminal activity
- removing problematic tags or wounds requiring follow-up care
- veterinary assessments, post-mortems, and welfare evaluations
- wildlife relocations where necessary to reduce risk and improve outcomes
To date, GKEPF has supported approximately R250,000 in veterinary costs through this initiative.
By helping partners respond rapidly and effectively when incidents occur, this arrangement strengthens the collective ability of Management Authorities to protect wildlife welfare, reduce conflict, and mitigate the impacts of wildlife crime across the Greater Kruger landscape.
